Description: Founded in 1878 by Thomas Coombs, the firm is one of the oldest and most respected
independent firms in Yorkshire . The firm became Thomas Coombs & Son when
Thomas Coombs' son Tom joined him in practice. Tom Coombs had a distinguished and
successful career which was completed by being made Lord Mayor of Leeds in 1937.
The present four partner firm is ideally located in Clarendon Road , Leeds ,
a developing professional area of the city.
Senior Partner John Murtland joined the partnership in the 1970's, Bill Jenkinson
was admitted on 1 January 1990 and Stuart Adam on 1 April 1999 .
Finally Christopher Darwin, after progressing through the ranks from joining
the firm in 1992, was appointed a partner on 1 July 2001 . Joyce Liddle, head of
our tax and trusts department, joined the firm from one of the Nationals in 1992. This specialist
department now has a staff of six. All the partners deal with a full range of client
needs including auditing, accountancy, management and computer services, personal and
corporate taxation advice and planning, trust and executorship work, and raising finance.
The resources, knowledge and expertise of the practice are enhanced by membership of the
