Description: A civil practitioner whose practice has expanded to include all aspects of the law relating to business and commerce with experience of most legal issues arising during the lifetime of a business. These include partnership disputes, company and commercial law, insolvency issues, tax planning and disputes between businesses, with their customers and clients and with government departments such as H M Revenue & Customs and the Department of Social Security. This is in addition to matters affecting an individual as a consumer, advising local government and in respect of the administration of estates.
While much of this work is advisory, his advocacy experience includes hearings in the High Court, the Court of Appeal, the County Court, the Lands Tribunal, the Employment Tribunal, the Social Security Appeals Tribunal, Commissioners of Inland Revenue and the VAT and Duties Tribunal.
Before joining Pendragon Chambers in October 1997 he was employed by accountants Coopers & Lybrand as a Tax Manager where he dealt with indirect taxation matters.He has contributed articles to “Taxationâ€, “Tax Journalâ€, “Tolleys Practical Tax Serviceâ€, “Taxes – The Weekly Tax News†and the “Financial Adviser" and has arranged and presented seminars for solicitors and accountants.
John is a member of the chancery bar association and listed at taxation web a directory of tax professionals. John is also a member of the Wales Commercial Law Association.
