Description: I am a freelance writer on UK taxation, TaxationWeb's news editor since April 2006, and co-author of Tottel's Capital Gains Tax 2006-07. I am a non-practising Chartered Tax Adviser, a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation since 1984.
I have written and updated articles and technical reference works for tax journals and online resources including Simon's Direct Tax Service, Taxation, The Tax Journal and Tolley's Tax Digest, published by LexisNexis UK; Tax Adviser and Payroll Digest published by CCH; Accountancy Age; and TaxAid, a charity providing guidance to people on low incomes.
I was the tax editor at AccountingWeb from August 2004 to July 2005. During my 30-year tax career I have been employed by the Inland Revenue (now HM Revenue and Customs) and by large and small firms of chartered accountants. I provided tax consultancy services to more than eighty smaller accountancy practices between 1995 and 2000.
I have given lectures on a range of UK tax matters to a variety of audiences including accountants, their clients, and undergraduates.
