Smith's Taxation

Smith's Taxation - UK tax guide was first published 1915. It provides a valued reference for professionals, owners and managers interested in the tax affairs of small and medium sized businesses. Updated at least annually, the current 109th edition, continues the detailed description of the British tax system and all major UK taxes.
Smith's Taxation has sections on Income tax, Inheritance tax, Corporation Tax, Car & fuel taxation and Capital Gains tax. Other sections cover 2005/2006 Tax Rates, Capital Allowances and Value Added Tax (VAT).
The tax guide has over 550 pages of text. The 15 tables of tax data (cover many tax years) provide a key reference source to Personal Allowances, National Insurance, Flat rate expenses & Car Fuel Scale Rates. Tax cases, Commissioner and VAT tribunal rulings, 598 in total, are described and separately indexed.

The directors:
Danby Bloch has been the editorial director from the inception of the company. He has written three books on financial subjects and wrote regular columns in the national press in the 1980s and 1990s. He is a regular lecturer, was a practising financial adviser for over 27 years and is still chairman of a City-based IFA firm. In his spare time he is Pro-Chancellor of Oxford Brookes University.
Helen Macdonald is the publishing director. She has been at Taxbriefs for eight years. Previously she was Editorial Manager (Journals) at Edward Arnold and Editorial Manager of the Royal United Services Institute for Defence Studies.
Robert McKay is a non-executive director. He is a lawyer by academic training, with a career to date in law, tax, accounting and business information. He has been a director of Sweet and Maxwell and Tolley and was managing director of publishing at The Stationery Office. A member of the Institute of Publishing, he has written on various aspects of professional publishing.
George Stainton was, until his death in March 2005, one of the original founders of Taxbriefs and our finance director. A qualified chartered accountant, George had many years' experience in various publishing and conference organisations providing services for accountants and financial advisers. He also had a wide range of other business interests.
